Adult Sunday School

First Elon offers several classes that use the official curriculum of the United Methodist Church entitled "Adult Bible Studies". This curriculum covers the entire Bible each seven years.

Wesleyan Ladies' Class

This class does a marvelous job of taking care of one another through cards, visits, calls and kindness. No one is ever left without a friend. They welcome anyone to gather with them and praise God in song; to pray for congregational, community and worldly concerns and to learn from dedicated teachers the Scriptures and lessons Jesus taught and to be examples to the young women who will follow them.

Men's Bible Class

This is a class of senior adult men with a deep love of the Bible. They enjoy singing, praying, and learning together in a fellowship of believers. They take seriously visitation of the sick and shut-in. They give monetary gifts to missions and ministry throughout the year.

Fellowship Class

This is a class of men and women, who enjoy studying the Adult Bible Studies Uniform Series. The curriculum is designed to help people understand the meaning of the Bible in relation to their daily lives. This class is particularly good in their pastoral care of one another, making cards, visits and phone calls a priority to those who are sick or in need. A treasury is kept for the sake of mission spending. The class enjoys a couple of socials each year, with one being the Christmas party. This is a fun and loving group of people from a variety of age groups and backgrounds.

Open Door Class

An open discussion class consisting of men and women ranging in age from young adult to older adult. All members are considered to be “teachers” for one another, with facilitators guiding the discussion. The class studies a variety of topics throughout the year, including studies which all members have had an opportunity to review and choose. These may be book or video studies. They support missions both within and outside of the church. They sponsor at least two fellowship opportunities each year, sometimes within the class and sometimes including other classes. This group of believers knows that "everyone has a story, everyone has a faith walk". Join them as they walk together in the life Jesus calls us towards!

Christian Living Class

A diversified group of people with two things in common: a desire to know more of God and a desire to build friendships within the class and the congregation. They enjoy studies of the Bible and topical subjects, including both book studies and video series. Students in this class enjoy open and honest discussions where different views are expressed freely. This dialogue is one of the great strengths of the class.
