Ministries & Discipleship
Christian Discipleship is about constantly growing in our knowledge and understanding of Jesus, deepening our faith as we learn and acting out that faith as we show our love for God and others. We seek to accomplish this by providing various faith development opportunities for people of all ages within our church and from surrounding communities.
Sunday Morning & Evening
Infant/Toddler Nursery
An Infant/Toddler Nursery is provided during worship services so that parents may focus on worshiping God. Please reach out to the church office, if you are looking forward to using the nursery. Sunday School begins at age three and is filled with age-appropriate activities that teach God’s love in a warm and caring environment.
Children’s Worship
Children are included in our morning worship service through a “mini-lesson” based on the sermon. Worship bags with quiet age appropriate activities are available for any children who choose to remain in the sanctuary during worship.
Children’s Ministry
Our children are an integral part of our church family. From the beginning, they are given a sound understanding of what it means to be God’s child. Our Children’s Ministry Team plans monthly activities and mission projects to help children understand what it means to be a “Disciple for Jesus” while showing them that being God’s child is FUN!
LIFT (Love In Faith & Trust)
All middle and high school youth are welcome! Come Sundays 1-3PM for fellowship, Bible study with thought-provoking conversation and fun outings where you will learn and discuss what it means to be a Christian in a modern world.
Adult Sunday School
We offer several classes that use the official curriculum of the United Methodist Church entitled “Adult Bible Studies”. This curriculum covers the entire Bible every seven years. There are also classes offering bible study, book studies or video series.
Year-Round Ministries
Adult Bible Studies
A variety of classes are available every year. Previous studies have included Serving from the Heart, Living as United Methodist Christians, and The Art of Reading Scripture.
Senior Adult Ministries (SAM)
Senior Adult Ministries (SAM) serves as a social and educational vehicle to enrich the lives of our adults over the age of 50. The SAM Planning Committee regularly meets to ensure presentations are both relevant and interesting.
Breakfast Ministry
Every Sunday morning, we feed the homeless, the working poor and others who need a meal and that is the mission of Breakfast Ministry. No one is turned away. We gladly feed those who come. The location for the Breakfast is at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church 320 E. Davis Street in Burlington. We also provide donated clothing items for men and women. A table is provided at FUMC Elon next to the coffee set-up for donated items.
The schedule for Sunday breakfast is:
- 5:00 A.M. cooks arrive
- 7:30 A.M. devotion time for the team
- 7:45 A.M. meals are put together for take-out or eat-in

Summer Growth
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School is held for a week during the summer (typically in late July or August) for children ages 3 through 5th grade. It includes fun, high-energy, fast-paced themes centered on God. At VBS your child will not only learn about God, but also meet other children and benefit from the leadership of a multi-generational volunteer team.
Camp Chestnut Ridge
Camp Chestnut Ridge is a United Methodist camp and retreat center that First Elon helps support. Children (grades K-8) are transported to/from church to the Efland location using our volunteers and our church bus allowing the children to participate in a week long church day camp. Various groups in the congregation often sponsor scholarships for children who otherwise would be unable to attend summer camp.
